My Research and Design Values

Below is the value that I have been learning and practicing in design, research, and every professional work since college:

1. Human-centered: having worked on sharing and supporting the 8 aspects of wellness and the environment, I think design also needs to be centered on people’s lived experiences. Taking the step to observe and understand the problems comprehensively is important before designing and building.

2. Accessible and Inclusive: inviting and celebrating different identities while uplifting alternate experiences. This is from my experience working on the Culture Cybernetics Lab, where identities, ancestors, art, and heritages are celebrated.

3. Co-existing: embracing nuance in everybody with an open-minded perspective. Seemingly conflicting truths are usually not in an "either-or" relationship but a “both, and” relationship. This encourages and facilitates more constructive and honest conversations, in a time when to disagree means to "cancel".

4. Honest: being open to communicating about what I did consider and what I did not consider, which can better inform the team and other people about my part of the collaboration.

5. Iterative: that design and research should be Iterative and consistently improve with the changing environments. This also includes acknowledging limitations and owning that craftsmanship spirit.
